If I Could Fly

If I could fly, I would fly. I would fly away from the grief that holds my soul.

I would fly. Away to the forest. I would talk to the trees and the birds and the grass. I would fly and I would fly and I would fly.

I would fly. Away to the sea. I would watch the dolphins and the gulls and be free. I would play in the waves and dive to its depths.

I would fly. Away to the stars. I would count every last one, and hold them close… . I would talk to the universe and ask her why. We were not given the right to fly.

I would fly. Away from here. I would breathe in peace. Alone. I would just be.

If I could fly, I would fly. Away.
