A New Marriage

Hello, again! Today I want to give special recognition to a brand new family.

Very recently, my son and his partner were married. I am so excited to be a mother-in-law, and I hope to be a good one. To my son, Jack, and his husband, Austin: I love you guys tremendously! โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ

In honor of their marriage, I wanted to create some “Love Art” to celebrate. I’ve been getting into coffee grounds and sand lately, and have created a couple of pieces of art from the mixed media.

My first one – the one that I will describe here, in this post – is titled Love. Its an 11×14″ canvas, mixed media with sand, ink, newspaper, and acrylic.

To start, I mixed violet ink with sand and used a palette knife to create the swirl. The swirl represents the marriage circle of a ring, a representation of continuity and also of grace. The violet color represents the convergence of color and light – violet being the last visible color before white. To me, this represents all communities and the ability to light the world with Love For All.

Once the swirl was dry, I knew I needed to use blue ink for the contrast color, and I truly love it. Blue represents the sky – the openness and limitless properties of Love.

The pieces of newspaper were “aged” with yellow ochre ink, and represent communicaton and the timelessness of True Love.

The black and white painted lines create contrast with the swirl, and they indicate the individuality of each person united in Love.

Finally, “love” was written semi-transparently with white acrylic paint, another representation of Love, in written form.

As a whole, Love is represented here as a neverending path joining two individuals whose souls bring light to the openness of truth and communication – the foundation of a happy marriage.

To Jack and Austin, may your love help light the world.

Love, your Mum.
