Hi Friends.
Today I am fighting increased back and leg pain, nerve pain related to my back surgeries a couple of years ago.
My work involves me standing for 5-8 hours at a time (with 1-3 breaks, depending on my shift length), and occasional lifting and carrying of 10 to 30+ lbs.
Days like today, I have to carry my leg to get it into the car at the end of my shift.
However, I still made time for myself once I got home today. I’ve been longing to paint, but my shifts started too early and ended too late to be able to get into a painting session. Today, I eagerly took my cup of tea to my basement studio after work and played with a canvas.
And now I’m back to show you another installation in my “Betty Krause” series.
You can view Betty’s original work at http://www.BettyKrauseArt.com.
I created a 12×12 piece just before my newest one – the one I will present to you shortly – but was unhappy with it. I’m almost afraid to show you because it is kind of horrendous.
This is the 12×12 piece that I have since painted over and prepped for a do-over.

I’m not sure what I was thinking, but it is a learning experience, nonetheless. How can I count the ways?
It was way too busy. I didn’t leave any space for the eyes to rest. There was way too much repitition at the top with the blue and purple dashes. Nothing stood out and grabbed my attention within the piece. Just overall wrong and not pleasing to my eye.
Which brings me to today. I took what I learned from my mistakes, as well as what I gleaned from Betty’s artwork on her website, and created a piece that I am more pleased with.
Here it is:

I can count a thing or two that I would change after seeing it again after a couple of hours. Namely, change the repitition of the flower shapes across the top to a variety of shapes and sizes, and also to consider the blue as a stream and keeping the flowers on the sides, not within. Also, maybe add greyish stones at the edges here and there.
I may take it back to my studio and work on it some more. Fix the things that would make it more interesting to look at.
Things that I really like include the blue “stream”, the stepping stones, the color variety, the cattails on the left side, and the variation of the blues across the stream.
Yes, I think I will work on it some more. I don’t work tomorrow, so I am making a date with a canvas!
Thanks for hanging out with me this evening. I appreciate your presence in the form of Likes and Follows. There may not be many, but each one makes me smile.
Most of all, I hope you are staying safe and sound.
Happy Love.
