Noom vs. WW

Today I restart my ambition and reactivate my resolve to make yet another lifestyle change.

A recent change includes our move from Florida to Wisconsin late last Spring. Another is that I withdrew from my Oxycodone pain meds and I work with my pain management doctor on alternate pain reducers/relievers. Also, I quit smoking. Six months down. Yay, Me.

Some pretty big changes, already. I am quietly giving myself credit. But the biggest change I’ve needed to make is one that I have just committed to spending the next several months on.

I have been an official member of Noom since I forgot to cancel my plan before the due date. That’s been since the beginning of March.

Yesterday, after wrestling with myself on whether or not to make the plunge, I went ahead and committed six months to devote to WW (the lifestyle change formerly known as Weight Watchers).

I had excellent results the last time I used WW – that was in 2003, my last year in college, and also the year I graduated. I lost 70 lbs in 7 months!

I was golden. I was doing a lot of walking for classes. I carefully planned out my points, making sure I ate things within my budget. WOW doritos was my thing, carefully weighing out each snack. I was smoke-free about three years by the time I started WW, and then started working on getting into a jogging routine (on the beach, at the Y). I finally fit into a size 12 bikini suit.

For about 10 minutes.

I gained it back, so the story goes. By the end of 2005, I was 20-25 lbs away from hitting my max weight. I stopped there for quite a few years. Until my surgeries, where I have completely exceeded any and all former max weights by another 30 lbs.

Since my back surgeries, I am unable to walk for exercise without back and hip pain.

All told, I was 270 lbs. I had lost 18 lbs since trying Alternate Day Fasting, and then working with Noom. Sadly, I am 259 now. No better, not too much worse.

I’ve been trying yoga off and on. I just wish I didn’t feel so fat and stupid trying to get into skinny-people poses.

I’m going to do whatever I can do to get my body moving and losing this weight.

I am now again a WW member. The year 2019 is going to be a great setup to a fantastic 2020.

In the meantime, I will work both Noom and WW. I will come up with some good and bad pointers (for me) between the two, and maybe write up a detailed article explaining the positives and negatives from my vantage point.

Already, my one vantage point between them both is working them online. I don’t like going to meetings, even just for 10 minutes to weigh in.

Noom is more chatty between you and your different Coaches, whereas WW (in my past, anyway) lets you diet in silence if you want. Or you can chat it up, follow, and be followed within WW if you so chose.

Both allow me to add my own recipes. Plus for both.

I will continue this story as it unfolds.

So today, April 26, 2019, I am 259.

259, looking to be 170ish. I would love to be 170. Even 180. But 170 is better. It’s what I want.

Thank you for reading.

  1. You have the power within yourself to achieve your weight goal. As an added bonus: Every ONE POUND you lose, takes Four Pounds Of pressure of your back and hips. You got this❣️😁
